Draw My Thing

Depressing to hear, but I can't grasp the fact uni has started. Not ready. I need to get myself in the mood. I don't know how .. but maybe after the coming weeks, I'll be init(2winit). Subjects I'm undertaking this semester:

  • Applications Programming
  • Network Design
  • International Marketing Analysis & Strategy
Applications - I'm happy I'm with friends in that, same with International Marketing, although not in the same class as anyone in the latter. Network Design... I don't even know WHAT to expect. So I'll see how I go.

Watched Ice Age 3 with the Jobo. It was either that, or Hannah Montanna Movie. Tempting, although we stuck with Ice Age 3. There were quite a few scenes that made me chuckle, in particular the laughing gas/helium scene. Loved it. Not quite as good as the first one, but definitely better than the 2nd movie. I took home the 3D glasses and tried to find video clips where I could use it. They're so useless because apparently you need a Real-D screen, or whatever. I wannna put them to use!!

Anyway, lately I've been watching Gossip Girl (to which I have now finally finished) and playing this awesome game called Draw My Thing. Its basically like pictionary. You meet some pretty cool/funny people and the games are a lot of fun. :) Its just interesting to see how peopel interpret some words, or drawings rather.

This was the drawing someone drew... can you guess what it is?

This is meant to be Harry Potter.

Also saw that last Wednesday. Dumbledores gay remarks = full of funny. Overall the movie was great, but not as great as everyone says in comparison to the other movies.

kthxtry(again next time)

"You Effing Hoe!"

Today must have been the most random, and nostalgic days ... this week. I see a lot of bogans catching my bus every now and then, and more specifically at Blacktown.

I went to Parra today to catch up with Jelli and since it was an awesome day out, we decided to take a walk along Church St. Along the way I got stopped by a GreenPeace supporter (Jelli, don't think I didn't notice you hurry off as soon as he approached me), and he asked for "10 seconds of my time".

So then our convo went like this:

GreenPeace dude: Excuse me buddy, can I borrow some of your time? It'll only be 10 seconds.
Me: Oh really? Um.. sorry but..
GreenPeace dude: (interupting) C'mon, it'll only be 20 seconds, I'll just ask you a few things.
(me noticing him changing from 10 seconds to 20)
Me: Uhh.. ok I'm timing you.
GreenPeace dude: (laughs) You're timing me? Ok. (fiddles with his watch) How many whales are killed in Japan every year?
Me: Um.. 100...
GreenPeace dude: Thousands, thousands are killed. How many are processed and stored in.. (something - forgot what he said)?
Me: Um... a thousand..?
GreenPeace dude: 2000... close enough. Now how many do you think are stored in Jumbo jets for importing? (something like that)
Me: Um.. 5!
GreenPeace dude: 12! I'll give you that.. (flips notepad) Now what can you do to help this situation?
Me: Umm... I don't know..
GreenPeace dude: :) Join GreenPeace

NOW I NOTICE HIS SIGN UP SHEET.

Me: Oh, uh we've gotta be somewhere at the moment, we're going to the.. uh... theatre... to watch a show...
GreenPeace dude: Oh thats okay! I'll walk with you :)
Me: Oh you don't wanna do thaaaat, its a bit far.
GreenPeace dude: Yes I do, I'll walk with you!

I walk off, and he's walking with us (persistent guy).

Me: lol umm..
GreenPeace dude: Haha so how old are you?
Me: Oh, yeah 20
GreenPeace dude: Haha okay.. um close enough...
Me: Yeah you gotta be 21 for that don't you? Hahaha.

At this point he gave up. The proper thing to do would have been to ask my age BEFORE giving me a whale quiz. Although it was a bit fun... if I was playing for candy or something.

After that, we walked on to the spot along Church St (with all the shops, near the library), near the fountain, where people can perform music. A dude with a guitar and pre-programmed drum beats was playing, so we sat down. Immediately, we noticed the presence of bogans singing along to his songs. They were freaking me out, seriously. This 50 year old one just starting headbanging like crazy yelling out the lyrics. Another one in front of us was singing along to it, with a beer in her hand, and she randomly yelled out "YOU EFFING HOE". Jelli and I were like wtf... then an asian family sits next to them with a toddler sitting next to the bogan... she grabs the toddlers right hand and starts making her dance, she kisses her hand for some reason and then proceeds to puppet the poor child.

The guy performing then changes songs, and a random old asian man who had been sitting there quietly for some time, suddenly gets up and dances. LMAO He had all the moves, it was so hilarious I wish i recorded it all. :D

Anyway, after that we headed to Oporto's to eat, and their CD playing in the background was so frekaing awesome. 9/10. It was ALL songs from the 80's and 90's! Savage Garden, N'Sync, Boyzone, Michael Learns to Rock, Richard Marx, Ronan Keating, Starship.... we sat in Oporto for close to 2 hours just catching up with that playing in the background. It was great. It brought back memories of the 90's.

The past few days have had perfect weather, I'm so glad I didn't start uni this week. Botannical Gardens was awesome with Jason, Billy and Jasmine. Relaxing there. Just chilled and played card games and had a running race with Billy - to which I lost.

Welcome To The Family

St Patrick's Primary School Reunion

So its been organised for a while now, and it finally came - the third reunion held by the St Pats kids. First one was at Bondi during the HSC, second was at Pjay's house (where only the asians came) and now this, more successful one, was held at Adam's house. My voice was still sort of gone (or as Jasmine would say - still going through puberty) so I got a few "what's wrong with your voice?" questions throughout the night.

Anyway, it was effing fantastic to see everyone there, especially the faces that I haven't seen for 9 years! I'm surprised at how much we've all grown up and its something I definitely cherish. First batch of people that came were the asians, haha, which was unsurprising, but as the night progressed, more and more of us came and the numbers increased. I came and Mrs. Jones (Adams mum) came out and recognised me, because I used to live near him, and also brought out the class photos. Plenty of laughs and reminiscing was being had between the different groups there.

Year 6 Class of 2000! Well almost half of us...

Biggest improvement for me to see was Connie, who had came into Year 5 not knowing a WORD of english (having just come from China), we were there to take her through Year 6 too, to help teach her english. One of us managed to bump into her and invite her along. When I spoke to her, her english had improved by mountains. It was amazing, and typically, like a lot of my Chinese friends who moved here - she also had the smarts. Haha. Biggest appearance change would be Adam, the host, himself. Dreadlocks and facial hair. Everyone else seemed pretty much recognisable, except throughout the night people were occasionally guessing some of the other filo guys to be me. They'd approach them and be like ".. Adrian?!" Then they'd point to me. Hahah. Some people came from the Central Coast to make it so i was surprised at the effort they made to come down.

Talking to everyone was not awkward at all, we all had stories to tell and we were having fun and joking around as we usually would, I can't wait for the next one! I loved hanging out with them. Eventually the night slowly came to its end and people began to leave.

Left around with 1.30 with Ijhay to drop Connie home, then I got dropped home. Overall I thought it was great seeing everyone again, we had too much fun that the next one is already in talks. Hahah. A cruise has been suggested, and we're prolly thinking of getting in touch with some old teachers.

All Time Low - Nothing Personal Review

It could almost be described as the feel-good album of my summer, but living in Australia has its drawbacks - the onslaught of pop-punk albums are released during this time, and we have the benefit of enjoying it during the coldest time of the year. Its happened to me with Yellowcard, The Starting Line, and FM Static to name a few. Regardless, the way it makes me feel is no different from having that burning ball of gas shining through my window. And All Time Low's third studio album, Nothing Personal is definitely no exception.

Nothing Personal is an ama-za-zing album. From start to finish its a roller coaster of emotions - from the song meanings, to the melodies to the increasingly catchy hooks, it grabs you like a cold if you were buried under snow naked. The album throws in a bit of electronic drum loops (or beats, whatever) that I thought would hinder my pure listening enjoyment because I prefer them using their instruments, but the chorus' in those songs more than make up for it. It's definitely a step up (or down?) from the more raw sound of Put Up or Shut Up, although in saying that, production still gets the okay from me, I really don't have the ear to tell if Alex Gaskarth's voice has been heavily editted or not, but whatever.

The first track on the album, Weightless, is a perfect example of this. I played that song to death when it first came out. It skyrocketed up my iTunes top 25, taking #4 most played song. The first half of the album definitely contains the meat of the pop-punk efforts thrown into this album, but it doesn't deter from what the second half has to offer. Although I admit, the verses weren't as memorable through first listen, it was the addictive chorus' of a majority of the songs that hit me. Tracks in the second half, such as "Walls" and "Keep The Change, You Filthy Animal" are tracks I would love to blast through my stereo whilst driving. Then again, much of the same can be said for 3/4 of the songs.

If I could choose my favourite track, it would be "Keep The Change...". It was either this or "Break Your Little Heart", its just soo damn catchy pop awesomeness. Whenever the chorus comes in, I just wanna sing along to it. Only flaw I can find in this album is probably "Hello, Brooklyn" - that song is a tad cheesy. The whole naming the cities thing at the end deserves to be mentioned here - purely because they didn't mention Sydney. I'm appalled. Even the song "Too Much", if slightly experimental, is one I prefer over it. The instrumentation is different and I quite like it. The first few seconds do NOT sound like ATL.

Songs I found myself skipping upon more listens was Stella, Lost In Stereo and Hello Brooklyn. Compared to "Keep the Change" or "Damned If I Do Ya", they just don't do it for me. I don't know, I base a majority of my opinion on first impressions and those didn't really have a lasting one.

Slowing the tempo down a bit, "Sick Little Games" is also one of my favourite songs off Nothing Personal. If the lyrics are as personal as Gaskarth pens them to be, then I really like the level this song has presented itself on, the emotionally-driven chorus could almost pass off as something Simple Plan could write (if they matured their sound more). Closing the album, "Therapy" is probably the Remembering Sunday of Nothing Personal, although evidently not as good. I find it weird closing the album on a slow song, but whatever floats their boat.

I personally don't think ATL are great at making slower songs (could be best left to another band like Boys Like Girls lol), but for creating a suitable summer album, this takes the cake this summer (or winter?).

7.5/10

Now go to Tim's blog and read his review when he puts it up.
